Salad Decoration Program  on the occasion of Savitribai Phule Jyanti

Organized by the Botany Department, Doodhsakhar Mahavidyalaya, Bidri

Introduction :   

The Botany Department successfully conducted a Salad Decoration Program on 03/01/2025 at Botany Department, Doodhsakhar Mahavidyalaya, Bidri. The initiative aimed to combine the principles of plant science with culinary creativity, highlighting the use of edible plants and their aesthetic presentation. This event served as an opportunity for students and faculty to explore the nutritional, ecological, and artistic value of plant-based foods.  

 

 











 
 

 

Objectives :  

1. To encourage the use of fresh, organic, and locally sourced plant ingredients.  

2. To promote awareness about the nutritional benefits of edible plants.  

3. To foster creativity and teamwork among participants through decorative salad-making.  

4. To demonstrate the importance of edible aesthetics in healthy food habits.

Date & Time: Friday, 03rd Jan. 2025 at 11.00 AM.

Venue : Botany Department, Doodhsakhar Mahavidyalaya, Bidri  

Participants : 20

Judges: Dr. N. M. Patil Sir & Mrs.S. S. Patil Ma'am.  

                                       

Activities  

The event featured:  

1. Introduction and Orientation : A brief session on the importance of incorporating plant-based foods into our diet and sustainable practices.  

2. Salad Decoration Contest : Participants were divided into teams/individuals to prepare and decorate salads using a variety of fresh and edible plants, flowers, and garnishes.  

3. Judging and Evaluation : Salads were assessed based on creativity, nutritional balance, presentation, and taste.  

 

4. Award Ceremony : Prizes were distributed to the most innovative and visually appealing salads.  



Outcome  

The Salad Decoration Program achieved significant success in terms of participation and enthusiasm. Participants showcased their skills and demonstrated an innovative use of plant materials. The program also helped in reinforcing the idea of healthy eating habits and the importance of aesthetics in food presentation.  


Conclusion and Recommendations  

The Salad Decoration Program was a resounding success, providing an enriching experience for all involved. The Botany Department plans to make this an annual event and incorporate workshops on edible plant cultivation and usage to further enrich the program.

Recommendations : Collaborate with local farmers or gardeners for ingredient sourcing.

About Me...

 The department of Botany was established in 1990. Botany was taught a upto B.Sc. part-II since 1990. In view of lively rural surroundings and rich diversity in plants and animals, there has been candid demand for opening botany department in the college and therefore the management had decided to open botany subject as special subject. The department was started as a degree course as special subject since 1992 and then continued as three year degree course. Department has always placed emphasis on teaching and co-curricular activities. It is well equipped and has specious laboratories with departmental library. The department takes a conscious effort to expand its teaching programs bringing together novel development in the field with traditional areas of botany through field excursions and projects.
